Specialized support for post-traumatic stress.
PTSD is treatable. With the right approach, the past becomes something you’ve survived rather than something you’re still inside of.
Have you experienced a traumatic event? Are you suffering from lingering fear and anxiety? Do you feel like you no longer have control over how you think, feel and behave?
Post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) is a mental health challenge that may occur in people who have experienced or witnessed a traumatic event — a natural disaster, an act of violence, a serious accident, assault, combat, or other overwhelming experiences. It’s believed that PTSD affects nearly four percent of the adult population, and women are twice as likely to experience it as men. People with PTSD often feel intense fear, anger, sadness, and detachment from friends, family and community. Ordinary sounds — a door banging, an accidental touch in a crowd — may trigger a strong, uncontrollable reaction.
There are several evidence-based treatments for PTSD. We most often draw on EMDR alongside trauma-focused CBT and somatic approaches, helping you process and integrate experiences that have left you stuck. Throughout, your safety and pacing come first.
- Flashbacks, nightmares or intrusive memories
- Hyperarousal — easily startled, on edge, irritable
- Avoidance of people, places or reminders of the event
- Numbness or detachment from those around you
- Difficulty feeling safe in your own body
