Hi there!
My work as a therapist is heavily informed by my curiosity for the world and the pursuit of exposing myself to different ways of living. I have been lucky to live and work in a number of communities, ranging from South Africa, Nunavut, and towns across rural Alberta, learning from and being with people of all walks of life. These experiences, coupled with my extensive background in human sciences, allows me to centre cultural diversity when working with clients.
With over 15 years of experience in the field of psychology, I’m passionate about supporting individuals, couples, and families in finding ways to live that align with their values, help them navigate both the easy and tough days, heal from the pains of their past, and find meaning in their lives. I am also very interested in supporting people in strengthening their relationship with themselves and others.
My Approach
My counselling style is guided by developing a collaborative and trusting connection with those I work with, providing space to explore what is important and beneficial for you. I believe the therapeutic relationship itself is one of the most powerful aspects of therapy: feeling connected to another person, and being able to work through hard moments together, lays the foundation for reconnecting with ourselves and navigating life’s challenges.
My current practice is grounded in Person-Centered Therapy, which means that I take my lead from the person or people I am working with. You decide the focus of therapy, how you would like things to unfold, and I trust that you are the expert of your own experience. This approach often leads to creative and flexible ways of working together to suit your unique needs.
I also draw from Existential Therapy, which explores life’s meaning, purpose, and how we face questions of mortality and authenticity. In addition, I may integrate elements from:
- Emotionally Focused Therapy (EFT)
- Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT)
- Transactional Analysis
- Gestalt Therapy
- Expressive Arts Approaches
- Mindfulness Practices
- Somatic and Body-Based Approaches (e.g., Somatic Experiencing)
My Values
The values that guide my work include diversity, equality, autonomy, collaboration, honesty, compassion, integrity, and empathy.
Outside the Office
When not working, I enjoy spending time together with loved ones and also alone, recharging! I love trying out new cuisines and exploring the local culinary scene in Calgary, cheering on nieces and nephews in their sporting and artistic events, hanging with my two dogs, and reading.
